Christopher Conte has sculpted and crafted some fascinating cyberpunk creatures and contraptions, some of which you really wouldn’t want skittering across your desk, like this mutated stapler:

Or this steam-driven spider:
Check out the full portfolio of his sci-fi inspired artwork. I like his method for approaching new projects. According to him, “I’ll see something in a movie and think, ‘Wouldn’t it be cool if that existed?’ And then I’ll try to bring them to reality.”
Can’t get much more direct that than.
I see that smile.
this is killer art man! would love to have the lot of them 🙂 specially the spider 😀

Agreed. Though I sometimes have my doubts about owning a piece of art that makes me feel wary of it coming to life and trying to kill me. Ruins the appeal sometimes, but, yes, it is incredible work.
Josh, not sure if you saw it (or cared) but your contest entry made my cut of the-best-the-best, and yes, I did recogize the storyline from crapometer.
You have a bright future, young man!
Josephine, thank you for such kind words! That’s going to keep me smiling the rest of the day. I’m astounded at how many people entered the contest, and there are quite a few stories there that I’m hoping get onto the shelves someday. Did you manage to get an entry in? I scanned, but didn’t see one for you.
The stapler. I want the stapler.
Mir
Actually, Mir, the stapler wants you. And it’s coming for you…while you sleep.
Those are beautiful! The steam-powered spider can come for me in my sleep anytime–I’ll keep a butterfly net (reinforced with steel mesh) hidden under my pillow.
Oh, good. Then I’ll just wait. Saves me the trouble of shopping.
I have ways of making metal spiders kowtow. Heh.
Short story there, methinks.
Mir
Sure thing, JJ and Mir. Any votes for making the stapler bug the new tooth fair? It comes in when your asleep…tickles its way across the pillow and inserts that devious plyer-piece into one’s mouth as you’re snoring…
You can fill in the rest.
