Brandon Sanderson announced that this short story, set in the world of Elantris, his first stand-alone fantasy novel, is now available for the public domain. So he was helpful enough to post it for free on his site. Here’s the linke:

Note- this story does take place after the events of Elantris, so if you haven’t read that first, I’d highly recommend it, otherwise you’ll hit on some major and minor spoilers concerning characters and the overall plot. Plus some elements might not make much sense right away without having been exposed to them previously in the novel.

“A tad?” Raoden asked, amused as he sat at the table. “Dinner was supposed to start an hour ago.”
