Monsters and Doormats

Dragons, Knights, & Angels magazine (DKA) has accepted another one of my short stories–The Ways of Monsters and Men. My website should now be updated to announce this, as well as a line on the Short Stories page. We’re now in the process of exchanging signatures and it’ll be officially theirs to publish. This is the second piece I’ll have with DKA, the first being my itty-bitty flash fiction, Manikin. I’m looking forward to both of these coming out, and will be linking them up as soon as they emerge from their editorial chrysalis. In the meantime, check out DKA’s website for the stories already available, such as Diane Gallant’s Pilgrims.

Many thanks again to the staff of DKA (such as Mir) who offered suggestions and revision ideas for The Ways of Monsters and Men the first time around, and helped make it a stronger (and not as bleak) story.

To celebrate, since I was discussing the rejections some days earlier, let’s throw a bit of humor around here.

We have, first off, the Mother of All Easter Egg Hunts.

And…A geek humor doormat. (Yes, I do find this funny)

I see that smile.

Hey, that’s awesome, Josh! Mucho congrats to you!!

I do, however, feel less geeky than normal. I don’t get the doormat. Explain?

Think of what the doormat phrase is saying. Does it sound familiar?

127.0.0.1 is…well, I know you don’t want the technical explanation, but I’m giving it anyways, heheh. It’s the IP address that designates your personal network connection. Also known as the “localhost” it can also be referred to as “home.”

You can also find this joke as a t-shirt, coffee mug, and a baseball cap, if you need a new one.

    Oh. Okay. *scuffs foot awkwardly*

I think I’m going to go crawl back into my hole now.

No, no. See, what you must do is now use this joke. Use it on everyone you come across. Bash people over the head with 127.0.0.1 and revel in their blank stares. And if you really want to feel your geekometer go off the chart, get a 127.0.0.1 tattoo, like I did. (though I’m not telling where)

*grin* But see, then I would feel like a fake. It’s just random knowlegde, acquired not while in the pursuit of wisdom, but accidentally. I’m not a computer geek. I’m a . . . something or other geek.

But then, random knowledge is fun. It’s always fun to spit out a funky word or number, and it’s especially fun to watch people’s reactions.

Hmmm. This could work for me!

    BTW. Nice pic!

Well, the context told me it was “home”, but now I know WHY it’s “home”. I wasn’t geeky/techie enough to know. 😀

So, is every story you send to DKA gonna have some version of man/men in there? heh.

Note the link on my blog to the ChiZine contest. If you want to indulge in something REALLY dark, that’s what they like.

Even melancholic me isn’t THAT dark. (I suppose I could make the maximal effort. Put on some Goth music, wear black nail polish, think depressing thoughts, and start writing. ; ) )

HEY! You changed your picture. I like this one better. You look WAY cuter. Did wife take it?

I know, as a wife, we like our fellas to look ubernice in headshots. It irks me no end that my husband’s stunning cuteness doesn’t come out in pics.

Mir<--bad camera technique, but means well...

Glad you all like the new picture. It’s from the run of engagement photos Jen and I took, so technically the soon-to-be-wife had a hand in it, yes. Jen is fiendishly camera-shy, however, so I don’t think she minds me cropping it a lil’. Personally, I think she looks lots better than me.

    lol – That’s good future-husband-speak. You’re learning well. :o)

My husband is definitely better looking than me, and has always been. But, hey, being the MegaHunk of the Cosmos, it’s to be expected.

Mir<--still crazy in love after all these years (er, 25 of LOVELOVELOVE in June, 24 of marriage in, also, June).
