    I would toss the George Clooney version of “Solaris” into that category. It’s a love story, but at the same time, it manages to be a really well-done science fiction movie. The space ship seems finite in size, which believable, and they talk about Higgs fields in a reasonably coherent fashion, etc.

    Pity that fans of romance aren’t generally fans of hard science fiction also. It was a very skillful piece of work.
