Today’s smattering of links throws in a mix of business, craftwork, inspiration, and fun.
First, the business.
GalleyCat is a blog about books and publishing–lots of insider industry info (like that alliteration?) to browse through, and as you probably have guessed by now, I enjoy staying up to date on this kind of news, just because I’m a geek like that. This blog is an offshoot of mediabistro.com, the website for media professionals, which is also a great place to search for publishing jobs, should you be wanting that kind of thing.
A dash of craftwork.
Jeffrey A. Carver, science fiction author extraordinaire, has this entire site devoted as a free course in writing science fiction and fantasy. He goes over everything from researching your story topics, adding believable human and alien elements, plotting deeper conflict, and so on. Great stuff (and remember, it’s free!).
And smidgins of inspiration and fun? What could be more fun than have a Cthulhu plush toy sitting on top of your computer monitor? (the toy used in those videos I linked a while back, remember?) Inspiration comes from the knowledge that if you don’t actually sit down and do some writing, this plushy fellow is going to suck out your soul and gnosh on it for all of eternity. Isn’t that grand? I can see you all racing to buy one already. (Don’t know who Cthulhu is? Email me and we’ll talk.)
There’s today’s mix. Enjoy at your peril.
I see that smile.
I don’t know how much inspired writing I’d accomplish with one of those things perched on my computer…but I know I would be afraid, very afraid to doze off…or turn my back…
But it’s such a cuddly perching beastie.
